Match Review ACLTwo MD3 Group H | Selangor FC 2-1 Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC | Monumental Victory Against The Korean Giants

Selangor FC emerged victorious in the 2024/25 AFC Champions League Two (ACLTwo) Group H match against Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors F.C. with a 2-1 result at the MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya, Malaysia yesterday.

A few key Red Giants players were hit with injuries leading up to the game against Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors F.C., who managed to collect six maximum points from the previous two ACLTwo 2024/25 matches, making it a nervy wait. In the first half, Jeonbuk played in a well-organized and disciplined tactical, however, Harith Haiqal, the young Red Giants captain, gave everyone a major boost in confidence after finishing off a reflex ball from Umarbek Eshmurodov in the 31st minute as a result of Yohandry Orozco's free kick. Two minutes later, Ali Olwan scored Merah Kuning's second goal after receiving a pass from Nooa Laine, to give Selangor FC a two-goal lead. The game took another turn in the Jeonbuk's favour when Kwon Chang-Hoon pulled one back for the visitors in the 40th minute. Both teams continued to attack back and forth in the second half of the match, however, the Red Giants managed to defend well to ensure we ended up with our second win in the group stage of this competition.

The head coach of Selangor FC, Nidzam Jamil, expressed his happiness with the performance displayed by the players.

"I feel this is a very interesting match for the supporters. I want to congratulate the players, they deserve this win because they have worked so hard to get it. Although we lost some important players prior to this big game, I found those who played, showed very good work ethics in the game. Also, tactically, the players were very disciplined. I'm happy with what they showed especially the players who came in the second half like Haiqal Lau, Danial Asri and Sharul Nazeem who manage to keep up with the high intensity of the game, definitely not an easy task to do,” he said.

From the #SFCJBH match in the AFC Champions League Two (ACLTwo) 2024/25 yesterday, some important things can be highlighted, such as:-

Ali Olwan's first goal in the 2024/25 ACLTwo competition brought luck

Selangor FC's new import player, Ali Olwan, performed brilliantly in yesterday's match. He was in the right place at the right time, constantly pressuring the opposing team which poses a lot of trouble and danger. Ali finally scored his first goal in this competition after finishing off Nooa Laine's pass in the 33rd minute. Ali was rewarded as AFC crowned him as the Man of The Match for #SFCJBH, with his goal eventually turning out to be the winner for the Red Giants last night.

Harith Haiqal was calm & composed as the young captain of the team

Harith has had experience being team captain with the national under-19 squad, under-23 squad; and also the Selangor FC under-23 squad (previously known as Selangor 2) in the Malaysian Premier League, and was given the responsibility by Nidzam Jamil to lead the Selangor FC team as captain for the first time in the ACLTwo 2024/25, replacing Safuwan Baharudin, who suffered an injury recently. Besides excelling in carrying out his responsibilities as the team captain, he was also the first indivual to light up the MBPJ stadium and give bright hope to the supporters and the team with his goal in the 31st minute.

Nikola Jambor and Mohammad Abualnadi

Our two new players, Nikola Jambor, midfielder and Mohammad Abualnadi, right back, made their first appearance as first team players in the 2024/25 ACLTwo. Both of them were effective and performed brilliantly in ensuring that there is no room for the opposing team to attack and were also pretty much involved when the team attacks too.

However, credit must go to all the players who performed in the #SFCJBH match. Each player played an important role in ensuring we won these three important points.

Selangor FC would also like to thank the 7,257 supporters who came to the MBPJ Stadium yesterday. Your unwavering support is sure to give a positive boost for us in the future.

So far, Selangor FC is leading Group H with seven points; followed by Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors F.C. in second place with six points; then Muangthong United F.C. with four points; and Dynamic Herb Cebu F.C. with one point.

Next, the Red Giants will face Johor Darul Ta'zim this coming Sunday (October 27th 2024) at 8:15pm for the Super League match at the MBPJ Stadium. Get your tickets on the Selangor FC official website starting at 9pm tonight.
